One More Dream

Boom Radio presents - The 5 One More Dream finalists!

Five years ago, we had a dream to create the radio station that we'd want to listen to. Now, five years on, we want to make that One More Dream come true for one of our listeners.

When we launched the One More Dream contest with Ambassador Cruise Line, we knew our listeners had talent, but had no idea just how much. Hundreds of you entered, 20 made the short list, and the incredibly hard task of whittling it down to the 5 finalists fell to Suzi Quatro, Mike Batt, Judi Spiers, and Graham Dene.

We now present the 5 One More Dream Finalists...

Gabriel Butler

Gabriel began his career as an apprentice pipe organ builder but has dabbled in developing computer music products, writing instruction books, and later ran his own auction company.  Singing didn’t start until the 80s, but now he busks and performs the great crooners while also singing in local a cappella groups.

Ken "Whizzy" Wiseman

In his teens, Ken was in a group of St Vincent & The Grenadines pupils who represented their nation across Canada, the USA, Holland, the UK, Belgium, Colombia, and the Caribbean for over 20 years. When Ken migrated to the UK 25 years ago, the group ended, and he became a solo artist.

The Monarchs Blues Band

This rhythm and blues band formed through adverts, chance meetings, and mutual connections, finding their stride when drummer Madge joined. The lineup features Les on vocals and guitar, Martin on guitar, Ilbert on double bass, and octogenarian Dave on sax and clarinet, who once jammed with Paul McCartney.

Scotty and the Flowing Locks

Brothers Mick and Dave formed the band 53 years ago with their dad as manager and roadie. Five years ago, Mick's son Scott joined as lead singer, having previously reached the final of Battle of the Bands at London's Indigo with a boyband. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with past members.

Steve Strawhead

In his 20s, Steve was spotted in a Spanish piano bar and whisked off to meet pre-X Factor Simon Cowell. His band reached the final four of Yamaha's first Battle of the Bands, performing at Abbey Road for George Martin and Bob Harris.

Our huge thanks to Suzi Quatro & Mike Batt for judging the shortlist; now the baton passes to Tony Christie and Tony Hadley, who, alongside our own Judi Spiers and Graham Dene, will pick the winner of One More Dream.

The winner will record at the legendary AIR studios, founded by Sir George Martin, with expert mentoring, and then, thanks to our friends at Ambassador Cruise Line — who are offering the chance to perform live on board an Ambassador cruise ship, as it makes its way to Hamburg — a real moment that matters!
